The new National curriculum states that all schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
  • Use a range of strokes effectively (For example: front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke).
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Green Lane’s Vision:

In order to ensure that children achieve 25 metres we will provide 3 courses of ten week swimming lesson during their time at Green Lane. These will take place as follows:

Year 5 – Autumn Term

Year 3 – Spring Term

Year 1 – Summer Term.

If at the end of the third course of lessons in year 5  a child has still not achieved 25 metres then they will be a given an addition course of 6 lessons during the summer term.
